The Top Rope Belaying Course teaches the essential foundations of safety and technique for rope climbing.
You will learn how to properly use the equipment, belay a climber safely, and communicate effectively, while spending time on the wall.
Put on and adjust a harness
Tie a figure eight knot
Belay on top rope using a belay device
Catch and manage controlled falls
Lower a climber smoothly and safely
Perform safety checks and partner communication
Supervised climbing time to practice learned techniques
Duration: 3 hours
Prerequisites: Ages 14 and up*
Equipment provided: harness, climbing shoes, and belay device during the course
A water bottle
Comfortable, flexible athletic clothing
* After certification, climbers aged 14 to 16 are required to use an assisted-braking belay device and must have an accredited adult supervising them on the ground while belaying.
